Open Source Monitoring

The capacity for people without engineering degrees to create electronic gadgets is growing exponentially thanks to small microprocessor boards based on the Arduino electronics framework. This technology is enabling scientists to collect time-series data using research-grade sensors at a fraction of the cost of proprietary logging systems. I have used these technologies to build soil quality and water quality sensor stations from scratch.

I use the knowledge base of EnviroDIY and their modular codes to create sophisticated logging stations. The EnviroDIY ecosystem includes a web repository for real time data viewing. To help others get started with environmental monitoring, I have developed a tutorial to acquaint users with Arduino and the EnviroDIY ecosystem
